US Macro: The consumer UMCSI April 2017
As we did last month lets continue to update our University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index.
The good news for this month is that the UMCSI seems to return to move upwards. Although this is mainly thanks to a huge increase in the Current Conditions Index. Meanwhile, Expectations Index is now flat and not increasing.
This has a positive interpretation, the consumer is getting more comfortable with their current situation. They feel that they are now better off that last year. But on the other hand, this is not affecting consumer expectations, which might mean that even though the think their current situation is better, they have doubts about the future.
For now, we should stay bullish according to consumer sentiment. But I think we should keep a close eye on those Consumer expectations just in case they are the prelude to a change of mind.
